Raptors
There are three families of raptors, two of which are diurnal birds (Accipitriformes and Falconiformes) and one of which is nocturnal (Strigiformes). At one point, the Accipiteriformes and Falconiformes were in the same family, but have since been split. There are four families in the Order Accipiteriformes: Accipitridae (more than 200 species worldwide), Order Cathartidae (seven species worldwide), Pandionidae (1 species) and Sagittariidae (one species). There is only one family in the Order Falconiformes: Falconidae (some 60 species worldwide). Order Strigiformes is divided into two Families: Strigidae (nearly 125 species worldwide) and Tytonidae (just 10 species worldwide).
